As a small family business, Cheshire Canal Boat Hire currently owns two narrowboats. We have all the legal legalisation and insurance in place and we believe that we offer unique personal touches setting us apart from the mainstream competitors.
“Hills on Water” is our luxury 58 ft narrow boat built in 2015 near Derbyshire, fitted out to the highest of quality. “Hills on water” can be used all year round thanks to its central heating and log burner along with its double glazed windows, being cold on a boat is now a thing of the past!
"Hills on Water" is a 5 berth (or 5 adults with 1 child sharing the large double sized bed) narrow boat comprising of one fixed king sized bed towards the bow (front) with a memory foam mattress, and a make up double and a single towards the stern (rear).
The bathroom is ideally located in the centre of the boat.
"Hills on Water"kitted out with a smart TV with Netflix provided, unlimited Wi-Fi with no data restrictions.
"Hills on water" is a cruiser style narrow boat which means that there is plenty of room to sit around the back of the boat whilst cruising! We have fold away seats as well as two additional cushioned seats out on the deck meaning everyone can enjoy the outside.
For your privacy "Hills on Water" has privacy proof windows so you can see outside but no one can see inside. So no need to shut the curtains during the day.
All bedding, toilet essentials, cutlery is provided during your stay. There is even a washing machine should you wish to get a head start on your washing! Hills on water is like a home from home and everything which you would expect should be on board.
Pets are welcomed on board free of charge but we ask you to keep pets away from the seats and beds. It may also be a good idea to bring a few towels to put down just in case!
Do I need any previous experience?
No experience is required, although information will be sent to you for you to study if you wish. On the arrival date we will show you how the boat works including the daily checks, safety equipment on board and how to handle the boat.
The handover will be your time to pick our brains to ensure you are fully happy before you leave.
Once you are happy, you will sign our handover sheet confirming you are happy to operate the boat.
We will accompany you (if necessary), out of the marina and down the canal to the first lock (depending on your routing). On the boat will be the boat manual showing all the equipment on board just in case you forget. You will need to read the "canal and river trust boaters handbook" which can be found on the useful links tab and well as a hard copy on the boat.
This detailed document will tell you everything you need to know about boating on the inland waters.
What do I need to bring?
Hills on water will be presented with Bedding, Towels, Tea towels, Washing up liquid, Soap, Toilet paper, Tea/Coffee, Torch. A itinerary list is available & will be emailed to you prior to arrival. You need to bring a variety of clothing depending on the British weather. The log burner is sufficient heat for the boat.
When will the boat be ready?
You will be able to board Hills on water at the latest on the day of arrival at 3 pm, other times can be arranged depending on your needs. An earlier time may be available. The boat must be returned to the marina before 10 am on your last day.
What happens if we have a problem?
We are only a 'phone call away. However our boat is well maintained and breakdowns are very rare, please contact any of the contacts given to you.
Can we view the boat before booking?
Yes you can, (subject to it being unoccupied), we are more than happy to arrange this. Please contact us to arrange a mutually convenient time
Are there any extra hidden charges?
To try to encourage sustainability, you will be given £10 of fuel per day for your hire period. When the boat is refilled we will deduct the amount extra from your deposit. £10 of fuel per day is roughly 6 hours of cruising.
Where is the boat moored?
The boat is moored at a lovely new marina just outside Nantwich called Aqueduct Marina. www.aqueductmarina.co.uk
The Marina has showers and secure parking. Aqueduct marina has been voted the best inland marina for the past 3 years. Information can be found on their website. The location of the marina is perfect for you to explore the local canal network. The Marina is on the Middlewich Branch, so you have the option to choose between 5 different canals routings shortly before you set sail- of course we can give you suggestions on routing depending on your requirements.
